YOUNGSTOWN - The fall is always a fun season for community theater.

It's a time when directors look for ways to capitalize on the spirit of Halloween. From "Rocky Horror" to "Dracula," local theaters continually find ways to freak out, creep out and spook audiences.

This season, the ultra-creepy show to catch is "Night of the Living Dead at the Oakland Center for the Arts." Based on the 1968 George A. Romero classic, director Christopher Fidram and a throng of zombies bring the cult classic to life. Un-life.

"Night of the Living Dead" is staged on a monochromatic set with black-and-white costuming, mimicking the original film. It's a quick straight-play, falling just short of the film's 96 minute run time.

If you're a fan of the film, you'll love this play. It's a fun stage adaptation, bringing the fun and gore of zombies to the live stage. Although the un-dead are the focal point, it's not too gory for children.

The show stars Chazz Sutton, Daniel Black, Laura Phillips, Anna Frabutt, John Garzanich, Ric Panning, Lisa Skerkavich, and Glenn Stevens. The cast also includes Selena Phillips, Andrew Labedz, Karen Sarrach, Geri Tichnor, Evan Wolfe, Donald G. Connors, Stephanie Sarrach, Maressa Carter, Ryan McKinney, Joseph D. Harris, Janelle Yohman, Jason Turner, Shane Sheerer, Bill Strahin, and Bryan Briones as The Zombies.

Star Gallery artists include James Pernotto, Michelle Orostin, and William Youngman.

Some corrections and additions from the original press release:
Danna Bozick is also a zombie (and set constructor, painter, and costume coordinator, bless her unbeating heart). Bill Strahin and Bryan Briones went through Zombie Rehab and are out of the cast.

Check out www.youngstownart.blogspot.com for a preview of the gallery. It's stellar stuff. The show title is "Candied Macabre: A Show of Sweetened Nightmares," and they are sweet indeed.

AND (this is exciting) Birdtown Media (Khaled Tabbara's new media company) is working on revising the main page for oaklandcenter.com. We've finally got the page relatively updated...it just rolls you right over to our blog :) Check it out!

Thanks for your support, Katie!
