Hey, thanks for the constructive criticism. We've got some more post VexFest stuff going up pretty soon...

Just to be clear, we're a VexFest sponsor but have no say in the line up...

Gotcha. It's a little different I guess since literally everybody knows MySpace is owned by Rupert Murdock but "the kids" still use it.

Vindy did do a story in print on the site http://www.vindy.com/content/entertainme... but admittedly not everyone that will use this site will catch that story. The Business Journal did one too but I can't link to it since it's not free (also causing a lot of people to miss it.)

The deal is this - we aren't trying to hide that our ownership is the same BUT we want to make clear that this isn't a news product created by The Vindicator newsroom. We're a very separate entity. We'll do stories the Vindy may not touch and include stuff that wouldn't ever be in the paper.

Hopefully some good comes out of this a long the way. Like maybe some really good local band makes it because they're found on this site. Or we get some more shows instead of the same old stuff. We'll have to wait and see.

Blacksheep,

You responded intelligently so I'll try to too. I'm not familiar with the monolith but I'm sure that some of the others here are. As far as VexFest, yeah, I don't think there are too many restrictions on who can be a sponsor, but you have to admit that it is better for Youngstown to have it than not. So we're glad to be able to help fund it and promote it.

With any business, there is the profit/ quality of service equation to figure out. In media it's a delicate balance. Aside from this site, newspaper publishers are starting to think that maybe this idea of newspaper companies being publicly traded corporations wasn't such a great idea. If a newspaper is totally beholden to shareholders and is nothing but a for profit business then what is the incentive to spend the money needed to uncover the truth? If newspapers don't hold the government and those in power accountable then who will? Bloggers? Maybe. But the economics don't seem to work.

Even though The Vindicator is a pretty large local business (we could could use a few more of these by the way) the owners are people who actually live here, in the valley, not a thousand miles away like with most newspaper companies. They have a stake in this area, which I think is a good thing and far better than the alternative.

Ummm sounds like maybe you have a personal ax to grind or something but you need to look at the people actually reporting on this site. They aren't the "old" establishment.

Also, we're sponsoring VexFest and have other things in the works.

So sit tight. If it's a personal thing then we aren't going to change your mind and won't bother trying...
